Once oxygen levels drop below 18 percent, the flame extinguishes, and the fuel supply is cut off. The unit will not operate again until the living space is properly ventilated and an adequate supply of oxygen (20 percent) is introduced. When proper oxygen levels are restored, you can manually restart the unit. For further protection, the water heater has a shutoff timer that will automatically turn off the appliance after 20 minutes of use, preventing the unit from overheating while also reducing the risk of hot water scalding.
